  • Also known as Swimmers Ear
  • Pain inside the ear and systemic symptoms is an indication of Otitis media, referral needed
  • Swim Ear for applying before swimming to prevent water from entering
  • Earcalm spray as an analgesic containing acetic acid
  • Emollient for dry skin around ear, olive oil drops for dry skin in ear
  • More likely in swimmers
  • Refer if symptoms do not improve after 7 days, children, lots of discharge
  • Inflammation of external ear, may be itchy and watery discharge, no systemic symptoms
  • Acetic acid ( Earcalm) to reduce inflammation, painkillers
  • Avoid water and soap in the ear
  • Avoid scratching and cotton buds
  • Swimmers could wear earplugs or swimming caps
