Arithmetic Sequence

• There are two major types of sequences:

  • Arithmetic
  • Geometric
• An arithmetic sequence is a sequence where each term calculated by adding the constant in the previous term.
• The constant between any two consecutive terms is always equal called common difference (d).
• The formula for the common difference (d) is: d = an − a(n−1)
• Formula for the arithmetic sequence/progression in n-th term (an): an = a1 + (n−1)d
• Formula for the arithmetic sequence/progression in n-th term (an): an = a1 + (n−1)d

  where:

  • an = the n-th term
  • a1 = the first term
  • n = the term number
  • d = the common difference
• The formula for the common difference (d) is: d = an − a(n−1)
