Psoriasis

• Affects the skin, joints and nails
• Patches of inflammation, scaly plaques, may cause hyperpigmentation
• Patches are normally symmetrical
• Can be linked to development of psoriasis
• Nail pitting
• First line is emollients and stronger corticosteroids (POM), continue for 4 weeks, corticosteroids only for max 8 weeks then break
• Refer if no family history or new rash
• 4 week treatment break from corticosteroids
• Coal tar or vitamin d topical
• Emollient bath additives
