turner syndrome

• occurs in females with only one x syndrome
• occurs in 1/2500 female births
• low set ears
• webbed neck
• wide nipples
• wide nipples
• shorter than average adult height
• failture to begin sexual changes during puberty
• named after dr henry turner who discovered it in 1938
• not inherited from parents, happens randomly,
• girls have 2 x chromosomes, girls with turners- the second x chromosome is missing or altered in some way
• lack of oestrogen and progesterone in ovaries may lead to lack of growth
• associated with high level of verbal skill
