10 -Jesus as God Incarnate

• God Incarnate -

  • Christians believe Jesus is God incarnate which means God 'in flesh'
  • Jesus, while being huma, was, at the same time, God
  • They believe the Holy Spirit was working through him
• Evidence that God is Jesus Incarnate

  • Virgin Birth - Mary was miraculously made pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit
  • Baptism - Holy Spirit descended on Jesus as he dove when baptised in the river Jordan
  • Miracles - Jesus healed people through the power of the Holy Spirit
  • Resurrection - Jesus rose from the dead through the power of the Holy Spirit
• Word of God -

  • Word of God means Jesus is God's way of communicating with us
  • God spoke words to create the world so Jesus was involved with creating the world
  • Jesus is God and has always existed. He was there 'in the beginning' at creation.
  • Jesus is God incarnate as 'the Word became flesh' when Jesus was born
• Virgin Birth -

  • The Incarnation is remembered at Christmas - 'the Word became flesh'
  • There are two accounts of the birth of Jesus in Matthew's and Luke's Gospel
  • Matthew and Luke agree that the conception of Jesus was a miracle by the Holy Spirit
• Census and Shepherds - Human

  • Mary and Joseph travelled from Nazareth to Bethlehem to be counted in the census
  • There was no room in the inn so they had to stay in the stable
  • Angels told shepherds to find Jesus and give thanks for his birth as the Messiah
  • This shows Jesus was a poor vulnerable human, just like us, born in poverty
• Wise Men and Stars - God

  • Wise men from the East followed a star which predicted the birth of a king
  • The star settled over Bethlehem where the wise men knelt before Jesus
  • They brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh
  • Jesus was God as stars mice across the universe and wise men kneel to worship him
