  • Improve oral hygiene
  • Rinse mouth with water after using inhaler
  • Stop smoking
  • Topical Miconazole Gel or Nystatin if contraindicated
  • Systemic antifungals for severe infections, Fluconazole
  • More common in denture patients, Chronic atrophic candidosis
  • Remove dentures at night
  • Cleanse dentures before and after placement
  • Reduce sugar intake
  • Fungal infection of the mouth, Candida
  • Risk Factors : Immunocompromised, Broad spec antibiotics, Poor mouth care, dentures, smokers and asthmatics
  • Symptoms : Discomfort eating, burning sensation, bad taste, white patches, can be symptomless
  • White creamy plaque with red oral mucosa, the plaques can wipe of leaving raw undersurface
  • Can be on tongue, roof or throat
  • Management:
    • Improve oral hygiene
    • Rinse mouth after steroid inhaler
    • Quit smoking
  • Topical antifungals - miconazole or nystatin
  • Systemic fluconazole for severe infections
  • Topical medicine will be swirled around the mouth and then swallow
  • Denture stomatits management:
    • Removing dentures at night
    • Cleansing thoroughly before and after placement
    • Reduce sugar intake
  • Miconazole or nystatin gel apply to fitting surface before insertion or systemic fluconazole in severe cases
  • New dentures recommended if recurrent and good practical measures
