    • Domestic abuse
      An incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour by a partner or family member
    • Approximately 1 in 5 adults aged 56 years and over had experienced domestic abuse that was not reported to the police due to fear

    • Sexual assault
      A type of sexual act, such as forced intercourse or other ways of sexual penetration, that are carried out without consent
    • Sexual assault is not often reported to the police due to shame
    • Sexual assault causes distress to the victim and that could come with feelings of guilt and embarrassment
    • 85,000 women and 2,000 men experience reported rape every year
    • Victims of crimes only directly involve the perpetrator, they have no victims
    • Crimes are not often reported to the police due to unawareness of being unaffected
    • A person may feel that a crime has nothing to do with them, therefore they should not report it
    • In most cases, people are unaware that a crime is a crime or have a lack of knowledge to be able to report it
