criticisms

• exclusivism can be criticised:

  • it limits God's unconditional love + forgiveness by tying him to a fundamentalist interpretation of certain biblical texts
  • it lacks balance: conflicts with the teachings of Jesus
  • the NT is a product of the Church: the Gospels were written by those who members of Christian communities, who had absorbed the outlook + teachings of those communities; contains authors' beliefs rather than always reporting what Jesus actually said
