MRI

• what's an MRI?

  • uses magnetic fields & radiowaves
  • produce cross-sectional image of brain
  • dense structures absorb more magnetic waves -> lighter
• advantages:

  • higher resolution than CT -> shows smaller structures e.g. tumours -> size + location (denser so show up lighter)
  • Safer -> no ionising X-rays
• disadvanatges:

  • expensive
  • noisy + claustrophobic
  • not real time - shows image at 1 point in time
  • can't accommodate to people with metallic implants
  • difficult physical setup
