Addition polymers

• Can form addition polymers when the double bond is broken into a repeating unit
• PVC = poly(chloroethene)
• Van der Waals force is the only force acting
• Most reactions with an alkene is electrophilic addition
• Phenyl is a bezene (C6H5- hydrogen bond) attached.
• Mechanical recycling is the process of crushing plastic into small pieces and melting and remoulding them
• Feedstock recycling is when polymers are heated, breaking the double bond and then using the now monomers to make other polymers
• Problems with feedstock recycling:

  Poly(propene) is a thermosoftening polymer so after a while it will become brittle
