Animal testing

• For animal testing:

  • Similarities to human biology/anatomy, so their findings can be applied to us, as we would react in a similar way
  • We can do experiments on them, that are unethical on humans
  • We have a greater right to life -> more complex brains
  • Strict guidelines regulate resources -> not wasted
  • We can test effect on whole organism -> not just cell culture
• against animal testing:

  • they have a right not to suffer
  • our biology isnt the same, application of findings onto humans -> not reliable
  • alts e.g. testing on tissue cultures
  • might not be a good model for humans
