Vygotsky’s stages

• Stage 1 - Vague syncretic:

  Trial and error without understanding
• Stage 2 - complex stage:

  Some appropriate strategies but main qualities not identified
• Stage 3 - potential concept stage:

  Only one characteristic at a time can be dealt with (eg tall)
• Stage 4 - mature concept stage:

  Child can deal with several characteristics simultaneously (eg tall and square)
