Three training seasons

Cards (5)

  • Aims of pre season
    ● To improve general and aerobic fitness. Often done via aerobic training, e.g. long runs.
    ● To improve specific fitness needs so that the performer is ready for the competitive season, e.g. agility for tennis.
Performers may undertake long duration activities to improve aerobic fitness before working on specific aspects of their technique.
Using continuous / fartlek / interval training sessions; weight training to build up strength and muscular endurance.
  • Aims of competition season
    ● To maintain fitness levels. The performer should be at peak fitness and will aim to maintain this. They may also work on specific skills used in their sport.
Taking part in matches every week, so maintenance of fitness related to the activity isn't too much, as it may cause fatigue which would decrease performance. Mainly concentrate on skills / set plays to improve team performance.
  • Aims of post season (also known as transition)

    ● To rest and recover from the season. Many performers also continue some light aerobic training so that fitness levels so not drop too far.

  • Competition season, Maintain Aerobic fitness
