  • Poetry
    Literary type written in lines, characterized by rhythm, sound, imagery, and form. Its main purpose is to express feelings, thoughts, and ideas.
  • Prose
    Literary type that applies a natural flow of speech and grammatical structures, mainly consisting of complete sentences arranged logically and sequentially in a paragraph form.
  • Fiction
    Literary type that is a product of the writer's wild imagination and creative thinking, where the characters react to the conflict and various issues central to the main idea of a literary work.
  • Non-fiction
    Stories inspired by real events where the writers aim to present, interpret, or describe experiences based on facts.
  • Lyric poetry
    The most common type of poetry that focuses on expressing feelings rather than telling a story.
  • Legend
    A traditional fiction that discusses how things on earth were created.
  • Tanaga
    A mono-riming heptasyllabic quatrain indigenous type of Filipino poem expressing insights and lessons on life.
  • Proverb
    Expresses norms or codes of behavior, community beliefs and instill values by offering nuggets of wisdom in short rhyming verse.
  • Literary Devices
    Typical structures used by writers to convey their message.
  • Imagery
    The use of visually descriptive or figurative language to create visual representation of actions, objects, and ideas in our mind in such a way that they appeal to our senses.
  • Mood
    The emotion that the author wants the reader to feel. Also refers to the atmosphere that is prevalent in the poem.
  • Figures of Speech
    Words or group of words that must be taken in a non-literal sense in order to understand the meaning.
  • Simile
    Comparison of two unlike objects using 'as" or "like".
  • Metaphor
    An implied or hidden comparison between two things that are unrelated but share some common characteristics.
  • Hyperbole
    An exaggeration of ideas for the sake of emphasis.
  • Personification
    Human qualities are given to inanimate objects, animals, or abstract term.
  • Alliteration
    A repetition of the initial letter or sound in two or more words.
