7 - Halal and Haram

• Haram - Any action or thing which is forbidden, such as eating certain foods
• Halal and Haram -

  • Halal is food that Muslims are allowed to eat
  • Chicken, beef, fish and vegetables are halal
  • Haram is food Muslims are not allowed to eat
  • All pork, pork products and animals that live by killing others are haram
  • Alcohol and animal blood are haram
• Killing the Halal Way -

  • The jugular vein is slit with the single cut of a razor-sharp knife
  • The butcher must be a Muslim and must recite the Shahadah
  • This shows life is taken with Allah's permission and for a good reason
  • All blood must be drained from the carcass
  • Meat that is halal will have a symbol stuck to it to show it has been killed the halal way
