  • if someone does not eat enough iron in their diet, they will become iron deficient or anaemic. This is because they are not producing sufficient haemoglobin in their red blood cells to carry oxygen around their body.
  • symptoms of anaemia include tiredness and lack of energy, shortness of breath and a pale of complexion
  • people at risk of developing anaemia are pregnant women, teenage girls with heavy periods, vegetarians and vegans
