  • allergic reactions can be minor, and often happen within a few minutes of eating the food.
  • symptoms:
    • skin rash
    • itchy eyes
    • runny nose
    • swollen lips, eyelids and face
    • wheezing or coughing
  • An extreme reaction is when the throat starts to swell and the person cannot breathe. This is known as anaphylactic shock. Someone with a known allergy to nuts will often carry a special pen called an Epipen, which will give them an injection of adrenaline to reduce the swelling.
  • Nut allergies can be life-threatening
