• primary processed foods are turned into other food products by altering them in some way or combining them with other ingredients
• flour goes through secondary stages of processing to turn it into pasta and bread
• to make pasta:

  1. flour is mixed with water and eggs to make a dough
  2. the dough is shaped by forcing it through a metal die and then folded etc
  3. colourings may be added to dye the pasta
  4. the pasta may be dried or eaten fresh
• to make bread:

  1. flour is mixed with water and yeast to make bread
  2. the dough is kneaded to work the gluten
  3. the dough is proved to let the yeast ferment
  4. the dough is baked in an oven
