type of muscle tisue

Cards (3)

  • Skeletal muscle:
    • Most muscle is skeletal
    • skeletal muscle is attached to the skeleton
    • Skeletal muscle is responsible for causing movement of the skeleton
    • Skeletal muscle is made of cylindrical cells that join to form multinucleated myofibrils
    • skeletal muscle has a striated pattern when stained and viewed using a microscope
  • Cardiac muscle:
    • The heart contains cardiac muscle, it is used to pump blood.
    • Cardiac muscle is myogenic, meaning that it doesn't require input from the nervous system to contract and relax
    • Cardiac muscle cells are branched to allow contraction across the whole ventricle or atrium.
    • Cells are uninucleated
    • Cardiac muscle is striated when stained and viewed under a microscope
  • Smooth (involuntary) muscle:
    • Smooth muscle lines organs, arteries, and arterioles.
    • By contracting and relaxing, it causes movement of the contents of an organ or blood vessel
    • smooth muscle cells are uninucleated
    • Smooth muscle tissue is spindle shaped
    • Smooth muscle is not striated.
