Chemical equilibria

Cards (6)

  • Le Chatliers principle: If a reaction at equilibrium faces a change in conditions then the point of equilibrium will shift opposite to counteract that change
  • What does increasing temperature do to the point of equilibrium if?
the reaction is endothermic: equilibrium will shift to the RHS to take up more energy and lower the temperature
the reaction is exothermic: equilibrium will shift to the LHS to reduce the release of energy
  • What does increasing pressure to the point of equilibrium?
The point of equilibrium will shift to the side with less moles of gas to decrease the increased pressure
  • What are equilibrium constants?
a value that expresses the relationship between the reactants and products in the amounts that are made.
like if it has a value greater than 1 then the point of equilibrium is on the product side and vice versa
  • homogeneous: same state
  • heterogeneous: different state
