  • Bandura (1965) Aim: To investigate if children would be more aggressive after viewing a role model who was rewarded for being aggressive. (vicarious reinforcement) 
  • Bandura (1965): Procedure: Observation- two observers recorded.
    Group 1- Model rewarded for aggressive behaviour
    Group 2- Model punished for aggressive behaviour
    Group 3- Control group
  • Bandura (1965): Procedure: Children went into waiting room watched TV show for 5 minutes, rewarded under each condition. Children the taken to room with doll and weapons and non-weapon tools.
  • Bandura (1965): Procedure:
    Model rewarded condition: Given sweets and soft drink, verbally given positive compliments.
    Model punished condition: Finger shaking in disappointment, saying “big bully”.
    Control condition: No form of reinforcement at end of show
  • Bandura (1965): Sample: 33 male and 33 female, from Stanford university nursery
  • Bandura (1965): Results: Children more likely to imitate aggressive behaviour if model positively rewarded.
  • Bandura (1965): Results: Boys performed more imitated behaviour than girls.
