RP- Effect of changing force/mass on acceleration of object

Cards (4)

  • Sample Method:
    1.Set up equipment as shown
2.Release the trolley and use a stopwatch to take measurements needed to calculate acceleration
3.Move 100g onto the mass holder
4.Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all the masses have been placed onto the mass holder
  • Considerations, Mistakes and Errors:
-When changing the force it is important to keep the mass of the system constant
-Fast events can result in timing errors, repeat for accuracy
-Friction can cause the events to be inaccurate
  • Variables:
    Independent:Force or the mass
    Dependent: The acceleration
Control: Force is mass is changed or mass if force is changed
  • Hazards and Risks:
    Can drop masses on feet
