immune response

Cards (5)

  • phagocytes- engulf and destroy
    • attacks foreign antigens
    • host antigen- indicates to phagocyte that is belongs
    • non specific- engulf and destroy anything without the host antigen
  • lymphocytes:finds pathogen it matches too with the host antigen and produces anti bodies
    • anti Bodies- sticky, neutralises pathogen and prevents it from producing toxins
    • causes it to stick to other pathogens and clump together
    • makes it easier for phagocyte to find, engluf and destroy
    • specific:targets specific pathogens
  • vaccination: weakened or dead version of a virus
still has antigens, body defeats it and creates memory lymphocytes against it
  • memory lymphocytes:if same pathogens enters body, produce antibodies faster and defeat illness quicker
HOWEVER: if mutation of that virus occurs memory lymphocytes cannot work
  • key words for 6 marker
