  • hunt down Nazi war criminals
  • pay reparations
  • USSR helped fight against Japan
  • free elections
  • United Nations
  • confusion about 'democracy'
• Potsdam Conference 1945:

  • Truman, Attlee, Stalin
  • re-instated division of Germany
  • could take any reparations from their section
  • USSR allowed to take equipment from USA and UK zones
  • atomic bomb kept secret by USA
  • Stalin did not uphold free elections
  • relations soured
