Group 7 elements

Cards (4)

  • Flourine- very reactive, poisonous yellow gas
Chlorine - fairly reactive, poisonous dense green gas
    Bromine - A dense, poisonous red-brown liquid
Iodine - dark grey solid or purple Vapour
  • Trends:
As you go down the halogens:
    • Become less reactive because its harder to gain an extra election because the outer shell becomes further away from the nucleus
    • Higher melting and boiling points
    • Higher relative atomic mass
  • Halogens can share electrons through Covalent bonding. The compounds formed by halogens all have Simple molecular structures
  • Halogens form ionic bonds with metals
1 ) Halogens form 1- ions called halides
    2) The compounds that form have ionic structures
