  • Longshore drift:
    1. Waves approach the beach at an angle depending on the direction of the prevailing wind
    2. The swash washes sand and pebbles up the beach at an angle
    3. The backwash moves the pebbles straight back down the beach, pulled by gravity
    4. The next wave repeats step 2
    5. Overtime the pebbles are moved along the beach in a zig-zag movement
