  • Burning them releases a huge amount of carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change
  • They are non-renewable and will eventually run out
  • They can release other pollutants (e.g. carbon particles, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide) that are dangerous to human health and the environment
