  • Hormonal contraception (pills, implants or injections) release hormones to raise hormone concentration.
  • Oestrogen prevents egg release because it inhibits FSH.
    Progesterone stimulates production of thick cervical mucus so sperm doesn’t enter the uterus and reach the egg.
  • Fertility drugs (clomifene) causes an increase in hormones FSH & LH.
    1. Fertility drug taken by woman to stimulate egg maturity.
    2. Eggs taken from ovary.
    3. Eggs mixed with sperm in a dish for fertilisation.
    4. Fertilised eggs develop into embryos.
    5. Once embryo are tiny balls of cells, one of 2 are placed in mother’s womb for development.
