Osmosis

• Movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from higher concentration to low concentration
• practical

  1. cht up potato into identical cylinders and get beakers with different sugar solutions
• 2. Measure mass of cylinders, leave in each beaker for 24 hours
• 3. Take out dry with paper towel and measure their masses again
• 4. If drawn water from osmosis should be increase in mass - calculate percentage change in mass
• Dependant variable- the potato mass

  independent variable- the concentration of the sugar solution

  control variable- temperatur,time, type
• Errors

  potato not fully dried

  reduce effect of errors by repeating the experiment and calculating mean mass
