  • Plainchant

  • Recitative
    Sung speech, links bits of the bible together.
  • Sonata
    A work for piano or a solo instrument with piano accompaniment.
  • Chamber Music
    Music written for small groups of instruments. It includes any music that is performed by a small number of performers with one performer to a part. The word 'chamber' signifies that the music can be performed in a small room.
  • String Quartet
    This is comprised of two violins, a viola and a cello.
  • Lied
    A German song for the Romantic Period for voice and piano in which both parts are important.
  • Impressionist
    Music creates an impression of a sea, storm etc.
  • Musique Concrete
    A montage of taped and edited live sounds e.g. a creaking door. Various electronic effects could also be applied.

    Characterized by a strong back beat (groove), electrified sounds and synthesizers. Fretless electric bass is common amongst jazz funk players.
