Cell cycle

• Mitosis - cell division which produces two identical daughter cells
• Chromosomes - DNA structures that are found in the nuclues, made up of genes
• Stage 1 - Cell growth 


  • cell grows
  • organelles (such as ribosomes and mitochondria) grow and increase in number
  • DNA replicates
• Stage 2 - Mitosis 


  • chromosomes line up in the centre of cell
  • one set of chromosomes are pulled to each side of the cell
  • nucleus divides

  
• Stage 3 - Cleaving

  • cytoplasm and cell membrane divide
  • forms 2 genetically identical daughter cells
