The School Health Service began 90 years ago when the Education Act of 1907 introduced periodic inspections to address government concerns over the poor health of school children.
Doctors and nurses went into schools to give pupils compulsorymedical checks and recommend any treatment they thought necessary.
These inspections were free, but until 1912, parents had to pay for any treatment required.

Help given to poor children was seen as a step forward for all citizens, as well as pursuing the idea of the government properly looking after their people.

They only inspected the children and delivered a report of their health, not providing the treatment to physically help the sickly children recover.
