cell mediated immunity

Cards (5)

    • This response is effective against intracellular pathogens. T cells target and destroy the entire infected cell along with pathogen inside
    • Helper t cells activated by antigen-presenting macrophages. Release cytokines to stimulate the production of B cells and cytotoxic T cells
    • Cytotoxic T cells attach themselves to infected cells, e.g. virus-infected cells, tumour cells, and release toxic chemicals to destroy the cells to prevent the pathogen from infecting other cells
    • Suppressor T cells– responsible for turning off immune response once the antigen has been successfully contained, destroyed or removed
    • Memory T cells– produced at the same time as cytotoxic T cells. Respond to further exposures of the same antigen by rapidly producing more copies of the same cytotoxic T cells
