an emotional bond between two people which is reciprocal shown by their behaviour - caregiver and infant
reciprocity definition
how two people interact, both the caregiver and baby respond to eachothers signals and each elicits a response from the other
interactional synchronicity definitions
two people are said to be synchronised where they carry out an action at the same time, it takes place in such a way where the infant and the mother mirror actions in some way
it is hard to know whats happening when observing infants as behaviours are not conscious as the baby is unaware of reciprocity/synchrony so may not be intentionally bonding
research into caregiver-infant interactions
Condon and Sander (1974) - said that children synchronise their movements with the sound of an adults voice
Brazleton (1975) - demonstrated that young infants can copy the displayed facial expressions or gestures
