  • Communicable disease is
    A disease that can spread between organisms
  • Non-communicable disease is
    A disease that doesnt spread between organisms
  • Malignant tumours are cancerous and can spread to other parts of the body
  • Benign tumours are non cancerous and do not spread to other parts of the body.
  • Coronary heart disease
    • Coronary arteries narrow due to build up of fat.
    • causes reduced blood flow
    • causes lack of oxygen to heart
    • Artificial hearts are unlikely to be rejected and they allow the heart to recover
    • However, they can be expensive and cause blood clotting leading to strokes
  • The two common treatments for coronary heart disease are:
    1. Statins
    2. Stents
  • Statins - drugs taken to decrease blood cholesterol levels. These help slow down the build up of fat
  • Stents - Inserted to keep coronary arteries open. Over time, the artery can narrow again. Drugs must also be taken to prevent blood clots
