  • all phobias are characterised by excessive fear, the extent of the fear is out of proportion to any real dangers presented by the phobic stimulus
  • 1)specific phobic- fear of a specific object or situation such as heights and spiders
  • 2) social phobias- a fear of social situations, for example public speaking
  • 3) Agoraphobia- a fear of being outside or in public places where escape is difficult, for example a busy shopping mall
