  • Corporate Social Responsibility is idea that companies have responsibility to their community and the work environment.
  • Whistle-blowing is when an employee leaks information to the public about wrongdoings in the workplace
  • globalisation in business is the spread of culture and ideas around the world
  • stakeholder is a person affected by business action's from investing
  • shareholder is a person who owns a part of the company and has the right to decision making
  • In CSR, Kantian ethics focuses on the action not the outcome. The universal law agrees with CSR since it is a universal law to follow your duty in the company. Means to an end follows this since it complies with not using others for your own companies benefit. Kingdom of ends, as a company it is your duty to be responsible and look after your workers.
  • In CSR, Utilitarianism will agree ‘greatest happiness for the greatest number’. However, ACT for CSR, they may reject this idea since more will be happy with lower cost and higher prices like sweatshops. For Act they may use the hedonic calculus to measure the amount of happy people. RULE would agree with this ides since it measures the quality of the happiness of the company community.
  • Whistle-blowing: Kantian Ethics emphasises the importance of honesty since in every situation. For the universal formulation it would say that by everyone being honest it is an ethical act. The means to and end formulation will also agree since you would not be using anyone for your own benefit. The kingdom of ends will follow whistleblowing since it is your duty to report wrongdoings and in UK law, you are protected by the government to keep your job.
  • Whistle-blowing: ACT utilitarianism would argue that it is acceptable if it produces greatest happiness for greatest number. They would use hedonic caucus to measure quantity if pleasure from the act. RULE utilitarianism would argue that it is only acceptable if the quality of happiness improves when whistle-blowing. It is protected by the law and follows UK rules, so would be acceptable
  • Globalisation: Kantian Ethics would find this problematic since this violates all corporate social responsibilities. It does not comply with the first and second formulation since universally everyone shouldn’t use people for their own benefit. Globalisation allows businesses span into lower class countries in order to profit higher.
  • Globalisation: ACT would argue it is okay since it creates the greatest happiness for the greatest number when using lower class countries to profit higher. RULE would argue it is wrong because the quality of that happiness is problematic and doesn't benefit the population with the pain caused to lower class countries.
