• 3 main things that make up a tendon:

  • cells (tenocytes) - make/maintain tissue
  • Extra cellular matrix:
  • collagen 1 fibres
  • elastin
  • lipids and glycoproteins
  • proteoglycans - hydrophilic
  • water
  • Interfascicular Matrix:
  • binds collagen fascicles together
  • made up of loose connective tissue, collagen 3 and proteoglycans
