  • How does the focus shift to Sheila?
    The inspector gives information to Sheila about Eva. Sheila agrees with the inspector as Eva led a pitiful life. The inspector tells of how Eva got the job at millwards but was then sacked after a customers complaint. Sheila recognised the photo and runs out crying. When she returns, Sheila admits that it was her who got Eva sacked. She explains that she happened to be in a bad mood and that she felt that Eva was laughing at her. She also admits that she was jealous of Eva's beauty as Sheila describes her as a ‘very pretty girl with big dark eyes’ 
  • How does the focus shift to Gerald?
    After Sheila confesses the inspector reveals that Eva changed her name to Daisy Renton. Form Geralds reaction, he is clearly disturbed by the news. When Sheila and Gerlad are left alone, Gerald admits to Sheila that he had an affair with Sheila. Gerald thinks that it can be hidden but Sheila is fully aware that the inspector already knows. The inspector then returns to the dining room.
