    A group of tissues that work together to perform a specific function in the body.
  • What is an organ system?

    An organ system is a group of organs that work together to perform a specific function in the body.
  • Example of a cell
    Heart Cell
  • Example of Tissue
    Heart Tissue

    Circulatory System
  • What does saliva contain?
    Amylase
  • What acid does the stomach contain?
    Hydrochloric acid
  • What does the liver produce?
    Bile which is stored in the gall bladder before use and emulsifies lipids.
  • What does the pancreas do?
    Secretes amylase which breaks down starch into glucose in the small intestine.
  • What does water do in the digestive system?
    It gets absorbed into the bloodstream in the large intestine.
  • What are enzymes?
    Biological catalysts which speed up the rate of reaction
  • What is denaturing?
    When the active site changes shape
  • Carbohydrates =Carbohydrase
    Glucose=Amylase (Starch)
    Protein=Protease (Amino acids)
    Lipids=Lipase(Fatty acids and glycerol)
  • Enzyme Practical
    1.Mix amylase with starch and start timer
    2.Remove drop from mixture every 10 seconds and add to iodine
    3.Record time taken for no starch to be detected
    4.Repeat at different temperatures
  • What colour does starch turn iodine?
    Turns iodine from orange to black

    They have air sacs with a large surface area that allow gas exchange
  • What is the double circulatory system?
    Blood enters the heart twice everytime it’s pumped round the body
  • Parts of Heart
  • What is an artery?
    Carries blood away from the heart
  • What are veins?
    Carries blood back to the heart
  • What is coronary heart disease?
    When the arteries supplying blood tot heart becomes blocked
  • What could happen if you get CHD?
    Heart attack
  • How to treat CHD
    A stent can be inserted to open up the vessel or you can take statins which reduce fatty deposits
