  • What are salmonella and Gonorrhoea?
    Communicable diseases. They are bacterial diseases which can be killed using antibiotics.
  • How is the bacteria that causes salmonella food poisoning spread?
    Through ingesting infected food, this food is prepared in unhygienic conditions.
  • What do the salmonella bacteria do?
    They secrete toxins which cause the symptoms of bacteria. These include: Fever, abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea.
  • Where is salmonella bacteria sometimes found?
    In poultry such as chicken. However, in the UK, chickens are vaccinated against salmonella and this controls the spread of the disease.
  • What is Gonorrhoea?
    Sexually transmitted infection.
  • What are the symptoms of Gonorrhoea?
    Thick yellow/green discharge from the penis or vagina, it can also cause pain when urinating
  • How was Gonorrhoea treated in the past?
    It was easily treated using the antibiotic penicillin. However, antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria are now common. So, now different antibiotics are used to treat Gonorrhoea.
  • How do we stop the spread of Gonorrhoea?
    Using a condom during sexual intercourse stops the bacteria passing from person to person.
    People who have unprotected sex should be tested for Gonorrhoea. They can then be treated with antibiotics to kill the bacteria before they pass it on to another person.
