  • Primary chords - the most used chords in a song.
  • Secondary chords - a type of altered or borrowed chord, chords that are not part of the music pieces key.
  • Tonic - the first note of a scale.
  • Perfect cadence - Perfect cadence is formed by two chords at the end of a passage of music. Perfect cadences sound as though the music has come to an end.
  • Imperfect cadence - a bit that sounds unfinished.
  • Chord progression - a series of chords played in sequence that all work around a key.
  • Tonic pedal - the big pedal used on the organ to play backing or deep notes, it is a harmonic device.
  • Dissonance - when two or more tones occur at the same time and create a clashing sound. Dissonance is non-harmonic.
  • Power chords - a power chord is made of two different notes.
