High-Energy (Flamborough Head)

• 60km long on Yorkshire Coast bordering North Sea
• Fetch from N/NE of over 1500km
• Most exposed parts of coast north facing so have highest inputs of wave energy
• Made up of sandstones, shales, limestones and carboniferous rocks
• Flamborough Head made of chalk
• Sedimentary rocks horizontally bedded
• Filey Bay, made of clay, disappears into the sea at a rate of 25m each year
• Shale and clay - 0.8m erosion per year
• Sandstone and limestone - 0.1m erosion per year
• Wave height in 2010 to 2011 over 4m in summer, will increase over time
