• phases of mitosis:

  1. prophase
  2. metaphase
  3. anaphase
  4. telophase
• during interphase:

  • DNA Replicates
  • organelle numbers increase
• during prophase:

  • nuclear envelope breaks down
  • DNA condenses to form chromosomes
  • centrioles appear to hold spindle
• during metaphase:

  • chromosomes line up in centre of cell
  • spindle attaches to chromosomes
• during anaphase:

  • centromere divides into 2
  • spindle pulls each chromatid to each side by contracting
• during Telophase:

  • nuclear envelope reforms around DNA
  • centrioles and spindle disappear
• during cytokinesis:

  • cells split apart by cytoplasm
  • forms 2 daughter cells
• the cell cycle has 4 phases:

  1. G1
  2. ‘S’ phase (synthesis)
  3. G2
  4. ’M’ phase (mitosis)
