• what are the functions of mitosis?

  • essential for growth and development of multicellular organisms
  • essential for repair
  • occurs during asexual reproduction
• in the nucleus we find chromosomes. these are made of the molecule DNA
• body cells contain 2 of each chromosome (paired). human body cells contain 23 pairs of chromosomes
• gametes have chromosomes which are not paired. human gametes have 23 single chromosomes
