The Tchaikovsky Circle

• Set up in St Petersburg in 1868-69.
• Consisted of about 100 people.
• Primarily a literacy society that distributed scientific and revolutionary literature such as Marx’s Das Kapital.
• From 1872, they began organising people to work with peasants in the countryside and spread new ideas among them.
