Mikhail Bakunin

• Bakunin believed that the state crushed individual freedom and should therefore be removed.
• He believed that private ownership of land should be replaced with collective ownership by the peasants.
• He argued that there shouldn’t be any form of central government at all (anarchy).
• In 1869, he published Catechism of a Revolutionary with Sergei Nechaev whilst exiled in Switzerland for calling for the assassination of the Tsar.
• Catechism of a Revolutionary encouraged opponents of the tsarist system to take direct action and achieve a revolution.
