  • What is schizophrenia?
    A long term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behaviour, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings
  • What are positive symptoms?
    Behaviours that are added to normal behaviour, hallucinations, delusions
  • Positive symptoms-
    -Delusions
    -Delusions of grandeur
    -Paranoid delusions
    -Auditory hallucinations
    -Thought insertion
    -Incoherent speech
    -Catatonic behaviour
  • Delusions of grandeur -
    -The sufferer believes he/she is someone important e.g Jesus or someone with special powers
  • Paranoid delusions-
    -Belief that others want to harm the sufferer
  • Auditory hallucinations-
    -Voices are heard which are mostly very critical or order that the sufferer to do something
  • Incoherent speech-
    -Sufferers speech goes in every directions without following a logical and coherent thread, making it impossible for others to understand
  • Catatonic behaviour-
    -Might be motionless for long periods of time, repetitive and aimless behaviour
  • Negative symptoms -
    -Disorganised speech
    -Disorganised behaviour
    -Inappropriate affect
    -Affective flattening
    -Avolition
    -Apathy
    -Cataleptic stupor
    -Anhedionia

    -Inappropriate speech
    -E.G 'its raining...fruit trees in summer... acts of Jupiter in a sea of haze'
