What is Contraception?
It’s a way of preventing pregnancy, by preventing fertilisation or implanting of a fertilised egg into the uterus
How does the Oral Contraception pill?
Contains hormones to inhibit FSH production so that no eggs mature
How does injections, implant or skin patch work?
Slow release progesterone to inhibit the maturation and release of eggs for months or years.
How do Barrier methods (Condoms and diaphragms) work?
Prevent the sperm reaching an egg
How do Intrauterine Devices work?
Prevent the implantation of an embryo or release a hormone
How do Spermicidal Agents work?
Kills or disable sperms
How does abstaining from intercourses work?
When an egg may be in the oviduct so there is no egg to fertilise
How do surgical methods of male and female sterilisation work?
sperm ducts and oviducts are blocked so gametes cannot pass
