• The unrest was worst in central Russia largely due to poor relationships between landlords and peasants.
• Unrest also spread to Poland, Ukraine and Georgia.
• The unrest led to arson that destroyed grain and property, peasants seizing land and even attacking landowners.
• The minister Pyotr Stolypin dealt with the unrest but so brutally that support for the Tsar decreased.
• Peasants were flogged, those involved in unrest were exiled, shot or hanged.
• There were so many hangings that people called the hangman's noose "Stolypin's necktie".
